The event, organised by the Greater Eldorado Park United Civic Organisation, was aimed at getting answers from government on housing issues.
The issues were highlighted during recent widespread protests in and around ‘Eldo’s’, as the area is generally known.
Chairperson of the Civic organisation, Weizmann Hamilton, says despite the setback, a new date for the rally will be set.
“The conduct of the government enraged the communities – because instead of addressing the grievances that were raised, particularly the question of housing… In Eldorado Park for an example, you can get three to four generations living in a Flat… between 18 and 23 people in some instances. We want them to address the problem of the mushrooming of what they politely describe as informal settlements,” he said.
